Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

Hi,

If someone is being evicted from their apartment, go to the scheduled court date, and subsequently lose, I understand a writ of possession will be issued. What exactly is this and how long before the evicted tenant receives it?

A writ of possession is the legal document authorizing the sheriff to remove you from the unit and restore possession to the landlord.

The time period for eviction is different because some tenants seek new trial/relief from forfeiture or a stay of the judgment.
