Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California
holding my property
i rented a room from a friend, it was a verbal agreement for a month to month basis. I gave my 30 day notice verbally ith my April rent. I took my clothes and some personal things. Now at the end of the month they wont let me move out my furniture and other property until i pay a storage fee. Is this legal?

you should contact the police if the landlord is refusing to allow you to leave or move your property out.
good luck.

NO! They cannot hold your property hostage, and police will not do anything.
Landlord can put furniture in storage after 15 days, and you have to pay 1/30 rent for each day furniture remains in property.
You can move furniture, write letter (certified) to landlord, or retain an attorney to write landlord a strong demand letter.
Good luck!
