Is it really illegal to remove attached fixtures added to a commercial building in CA?

When something becomes a "fixture" of the building, versus personal property brought into the premises can sometimes be debated, but yes, if something is a fixture, it becomes the property of the building owner absent specific lease provisions to the contrary, and taking fixtures is just as illegal as if you stripped out the wiring and copper plumbing and sold it for scrap.
