illegal rental unit, aggressive landlord/owner
I am renting a detached unit that I
found out is an illegally converted
shed, and is zoned as uninhabitable.
It also has numerous structural
county code violations, and no
bathroom or kitchen facilities. Do I
have to keep paying rent? My
landlord threatens to keep my
deposit for requesting repairs, and
yells at me.

Landlord is totally out of line.
Don't pay any more rent.
Move, and sue for rent "abatement" (refund from landlord) and return of deposit. You'll probably need to retain an attorney.
