improper service

my landlord left summons notice on door step when i was away working is this legal also the amount he is seeking does not include that i gave him three quarters of the rent last month

You must file a responsive pleading in 5 days. I wouldn't suggest you fight the way it was served, because eventually it will be served. You may raise as an affirmative defense the failure to credit your payment -- which could be fatal to the lawsuit. You might avail yourself of the services of eviction defense volunteers at your local courthouse, or even an attorney.
