Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

irrational and violent landlord

whenever we have called for repairs in our home, our landlord becomes explosive, gets right in our face and screams and accuses us of sabatoging! We have asked him not to do that anymore. recent event was a pipe came apart beneath sink. He came to repair it was quiet, then got in my husband's face screaming that we had sawed the pipe intentionally. He returned later, got in my face told me he didn't like us anymore and he was going tokick us out! I asked him toleave. He told me ''this is my house and I'm not leaving'' Phoned police., made report. Long story short, he returned with video camera opening up cupboards saying we ''live like pigs!'' (very untrue) Police called, they told him against law to video, etc. Shouting errupted, he had me pinned against the stove screaming. HE went to LAPD and filed charges that we boththreatened him with great bodily harm! informal hearing with DA next week. We think he may have dementia (all signs are there) we rented from him 13 years ago, he wasn't like this. Any thoughts??? or questions??

Re: irrational and violent landlord

First, read my answer to question #261693176, that I answered five questions ago ("Problem with Property Manager"). It is eerily similar to yours, and I have a client waiting for me, so I am saving a couple of minutes.

Secondly, wait for your hearing with the DA, but it is unclear whether they are looking at you as defendants, which is possible and probable.

Thirdly, think about moving!

Fourth, retain an attorney at this point merely to write a letter to landlord.

Feel free to contact me with more, especially after D.A. interview. If it appears that they may charge you with something, refuse to speak with them further. They can, and will, use your own words against you.

Good luck!
