Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

My landlady asked me to move out becuase her niece wants to move in. She wants me to move out exactly a month?

Glendale, CA

She told me that she would give me my deposite by the end of the month and that I dont need to pay this months rent. I need to know if this is legal to do this?

It depends on how long you have been there and if you have a lease for an extended term that has not expired. If you have a term lease - such as six months or a year, etc., she can't move you out until the end of the term. If you are on a month-to-month and have been there over a year, she must give you 60-days notice; under a year, 30-days is all that is required. Other than that, unless Glendale has a rent and occupancy control ordinance that I don't know about, she has full legal rights to terminate the tenancy to move a relative in, or for any other reason not prohibited by law (such as racial discrimination in housing).
