Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California
My old landlord claims that I stole a futon when I moved out. I doubt that the item is his to begin with, because it was the only item in the flat when I first moved in, and probably belonged to the previous tenant. He claims its worth $200, but I found futons in similar conditions for $50. What should I do?

You might return it just to have peace. If it's so cheap, you can buy yourself one for $50 and avoid the headache of having to go to small claims court.

Return it as wasn't yours and could have been his. Or it might have been abandoned, but is it worth your time defending your actions if he sues you in small claims court?
Good luck and hope that helps.
