Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California
landlord deducting ''alleged'' damage costs from rent
I am in a dispute with my landlord regarding water damage caused by no caulking around the shower fixtures. He claims it is my fault because I put an extension on the shower head. I paid my monthly rent in full, however, the landlord deducted $450 for the damages and now says I am in arrears with my rent. He served me with a 3 day notice to pay rent or surrender possesion. Is this legal?

Under California law, a 3 day notice to quit can NOT include money owed for "damages."
