Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

My landlord want's to keep my deposit

I had given my landlord a deposit of 300.00 dollares. To move into a new apartment. I decided not to move in. So i aasked for my deposit back and the landlord told me that he was going to keep the 300.00 dollar's. I did not move in. Is this right what his doing?

I read Mr. Bennett's answer back then and he was correct then as he is now. Your landlord can keep the deposit because he took the property off the market because you were going rent it.
