Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California
Landlord dual home lease to College girls and unknow Male adult
A landlord leased part of his home to (2) college girls in Dec 2005.
Two months later, he leased the front part of the house to a retired 60 yr old male without consulting the girls. The girls can lock the access door to the back of the house.
Do they have any legal rights, even though their lease did not say anything about being asked first. They did know that he intended to lease that part of the house to another person. The man just showed up and said he was moving in.
They cannot move out now, since there will be no rentals available until the spring.

Re: Landlord dual home lease to College girls and unknow Male adult
Different States have different laws, but in California, generally the only girls only have rights to the rooms under the lease and the common areas. They cannot control other rooms and cannot stop the landlord from leasing those rooms unless the lease specifically dealt with that issue.
