Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California
Our landlord is friends with our neighbor. The neighbor has been spying on us and taking pictures then reporting to the landlord what we are doing. Our younger sister is over all the time and has a dog, so our landlord wants us to pay the pet deposit. We are fine with that. We aren't fine with feeling unsafe and uncomfortable because we are being spied on. The lease doesn't state we have to pay a deposit, it just says we have to have landlord's permission for a pet.

It is not against the law to take pictures of people in areas that can be viewed by the public. If the landlord and neighbor were taking pictures of you while you were inside your home, then you would have a case for invasion of privacy, but not if the pictures are taken of the exterior while you are walking a dog.
