Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

My landlord gave me 24 hr written notice to come into my apartment to inspect the fire alarms. That is fine but they want all the tenants to be home both Saturday and Sunday 9:00am to 5:00pm. Is that legal? Already tried to work out other arrangements.

I find it annoying when tenants insist on being present for minor matters, such as inspections, and fire alarm inspections are minor. It is even more annoying for a landlord to require you be present. You are not required by any law to be present if you give permission to enter, although most tenants prefer to be present for personal reasons.

California law makes it illegal for the landlord to enter rented units, on a non-emergency basis without the tenants' consent, outside of "normal business hours." Normal business hours have been held to be 8am to 6pm, Monday through Friday. Not sure how much you want to fight this, but you are within your legal rights.
