Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

More on landlord harassment/rent check refusal

Thank you for answering my earlier question so promptly.

You said it wasn't considered harassment for her to refuse our rent checks but according to Tenant Harassment Ordinance - Section 4.56.020 Prohibition - it lists this -

(k) Refuse to acknowledge receipt of a tenants lawful rent payment.

I had also mentioned that the corporation is listed as ''suspended''. The reason I brought that up is I was under the impression a suspended corporation could not legally conduct business, such as collect or raise rents, among other things.

Re: More on landlord harassment/rent check refusal

I assume that your address is in Santa Monica, based on your zip code, and your are very welcome.

Santa Monica, and Los Angeles, have different rent ordinances than the rest of the state. I am not knowledgeable about your area, at least as far as your question goes.

Also, a suspended corporation cannot do business, and you have done excellent research.

I suggest you retain a local attorney, as you are going to end up in court, unless you give in to the landlord.

Good luck!
