Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

Landlord says no house guest - fringing on my privacy?

My landlord has told me that I may not have a certain house guest over because he does not live there. Is it fair for me to believe that she cannot tell me who to have over? The lease says there ''premises should only be occupied by those named on the lease,'' but is there a loophole for house guest?

You can have anyone visit you. You can have people stay overnight occasionally. But if they are living there, the landlord has a right to make them sign the rental agreement, submit an application, meet credit standards and assume responsibility for the rent.
