Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

Landlord illegaly entering apartment while tenant is not home

What can a tenant do if his/her

landlord is illegally entering the

tenants unit when he/she is not

there? Each time this happens, I

return to my apartment to find that

certain things are not where I left

them. It appears , from the things

that have been moved, that the

landlord, and possibly others in his

employ, are looking for something. I

am slightly obsessive compulsive.

That is why I can sense right away

when something has been tampered

with then not put back in it's original

place. Recently, this past Thursday, I

returned home and found that certain

computer disks I keep in a specific

pocket in my computer bag where

gone. I found them in another pocket

of the bag, somewhere I have never

and would never put them. That is

why I am posting this question now. I

have been to the local police but they

told me that unless something has

been stolen, they really can't do

anything it. Nothing has been stolen

yet but I fear for my safety, privacy

and property. There is a sordid

history of this place; previous tenants

drug dealing, etc. The landlord is

quite arrogant and has intimated that

he could get more rent $$ if I were to

move. Any ideas on my options?
