Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

Can my landlord tell me to move out within 30 days with no reasonable cause?

I have been renting a house for the past 7 years. There was no contract signed. It was on a month to month basis and I have been paying him cash. When i would pay him the rent he would never give me receipts for proof of payment and now he claims that I owe him money, which is not true! He has told me that i have 30 days to leave the house. Can he do that? I have a one year old daughter and no money saved. I am having a difficult time finding a reasonable location and my time is almost done. I have until July 31st. Can you please tell me what I can do about this?

The landlord must still comply with the law and serve you with a -written- 30 day notice either personally or by posting in a conspicuous place. Since you're month to month, there's no restriction, unless you're in a rent stabilized county or city.
