Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California
Former landlord (and Postal employee) slandering me
My former landlord forced me to move after I complained about the behavior of another (male) tenant (urinating in front of me in public). She had said many times she did not want single women or disabled in her houses. I have filed a complaint with Fair Employment & Housing, case accepted, but because I could not take the risk of having an eviction on my record, was forced to move in the meantime. I had a friend return the housekeys, and landlord slandered me to her. My friend is a stranger to her, and landlord told her I was 'crazy', 'nothing but trouble', and stated the Post Office had called the police on me for 'making a scene'. (I had objected to being forced to listen to strongly religious christian music during Dec. *I* demanded a police officer be called after a male customer threatened me with physical violence for my opinion. PO refused.) I have had to have a friend pose as my former landlord to get another house. What can I do to stop former landlord from slandering me to people?
