Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

My landlord, in a senior rental apartment told me that if I didn't stop talking bad about her , she didn't want to involve her fianc but if I continued she would tell her fianc about me . We have had a rocky time of it since I moved in 5 and a half years ago.I went and filed a police report and 2 weeks later she called the police on me and said I was stalking her all over town following her everywhere . I don't own a car. Both times I called corporate office and simultaneously she was calling corporate office according to police report she filed . The company finally removed her, noting that it was not what happened with me but that she had many other complaints from other tenants and company said they transfer managers every two years anyway although she was here almost 4 years without interruption . Before she left she told many tenants what a bad person I was and convinced two tenants as a last ditch effort to pass a petition around the apartment complex to not only ask that she not be removed but also that I be evicted. Neither petition survived passed the initial stage. My neighbors avoid me now. People I use to be invited into their apartment no longer talk to me. Approximately October of this year will be 2 years since her threat and also her false accusation of her claim that I was stalking her . I am 61 years old and have never been convicted of not even a simple misdemeanor . It has been about a year now that I am realizing people in this complex completely avoid me and ignore me. Do I have grounds for a civil suit. , and how long is the Statute of Limitations. Thank you very much to whom ever it may concern and who answered.

Nased upon what you have written, you have 1 year to file suit from the last disparaging comment the former property manager stated about you. I suggest that you consult with an attorney that practices personal injury law or consult with your local legal aid clinic for help.
