Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California
Our landlord did not tell us that her son, who lives on the same parcel, is a registered sex offender. We want out of our lease and want our deposit back... what are our rights?

I believe I may have already posted an answer to this question, or it is the exact same fact pattern as another question posted in the last many weeks. The landlord does not have a legal obligation to tell you that his son is a registered sex offender, only that you have the right to check the Megan's Law Database before comitting to the lease. As (I assume) you did not, you are deemed to have accepted the rental with a sex offender living on the property. You would generally not be legally excused from performing the balance of your lease based on discovering that the son is a registered sex offender.
