Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

landlord tenant law

I was sub-leasing an apartment to a guy because I didn't want to pay for the rent over the summer. We signed a contract and he payed the first month's rent and deposit. After one month, I had a disagreement with the land lady and she threatened to evict me. I told my sub-leaser about it and he decided to move out. However, he wants his entire money back even though he lived there for a month already. Do I have to give it all back even though he did live there for a month?

Re: landlord tenant law

You do not have to give his money back. He lived there for a month, and certainly owes you for that month.
