My landlord verbally told me she wants me to be able to continue renting a room in her home if she dies. How do I make certain her family cannot evict me?

The problem with verbal rental agreements is that they are verbal rental agreements. The only thing that will protect your rights to continue to occupy your room and in effect the home after the landlord's death is a formal written rental agreement. This should provide you with at a minimum 30 -day notice of any actions by your landlord's successors in interest to end your rental agreement.
