Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California
Can a landord refuse to show proper documentation requested by the tenent regarding work being done in another tenents home? ok here is the situation the tenent down stairs wants cable i did not receive any type of notification telling me that they would be coming through my apartment to work the cable guy said that he had offered another solution which would be to start the line outside the tenents apartment and the landlord along with the maintaince guy refused because my apartment complex is under new management and my lease is with the old management my least states any demages done to the apartment I am responsible for I told my landlord that Im willing to allow whatever work to be done as long as I have written documentation stating any demages done I will not be responsible for, their cable service will not interfere with my service and i would not have to pay for any extra charges when it came down to my electric bill. I spoke with the supervisor of the cable company and she informed me that any special wiring that needs to be done they need a letter from the landlord stating that they have permission to drill a hole into the wall and so they will not be held responsible for demages and it has to be an official letter from the landlords desk. the above imformation is all i asked for and she refused and said that she was gonna evict me. does she have that right?

What you asked for seems reasonable, although it probably is not legally necessary. She can not evict you for what you did request, but she can refuse to renew the lease if you are on a thirty day lease. You should tell her that you were only asking for what yo are legally entitled to, she violated the law by not giving you notice, and the cable company also asked her for a written document she refused. How is she going to explain her behavior to the owner of the complex if the other tenant moves out because of no cable and she kicks you out. Hint that you will complain to the owner; many owners do not know how poor a job at management the companies they hire do.
