what are the laws regarding 30-day notices and paying rent for an apartment on a month to month lease?

The question is very broad; in general, for a month to month tenancy you must give a written notice that you do not plan to renew the rental thirty days from the date of the notice. If the tenant has lived there for more than one year, only the landlord must increase that notice by an additional thirty days.
