Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California
Lease expired what should I do?
I'm in a light industrial area (office/warehouse) and was sub-leasing from a neighbor who didn't need the space. That lasted a year then they didn't want to keep sub-leasing to me and I contacted th property manager to lease directly from them. After talking to them they told me they would send the lease contract in the mail. This never happened, so I called them agian and requested to negotiate the lease agian. They said they would call me later that week. This never happened, so once agian I contacted them to get this thing done. They told me to fax over a ''wish list'' lease proposal and they would look it over then send me their lease propasal. I did, but never got theirs.
Needless to say this has gone on for three months and they seem determined to let me stay here without a contract and without paying rent. I'm at a loss and cannot comprehend this kind of behavior.
My question is can they make me pay for the 3 months I have been here and if I leave without letting them know (as if they would know anyways)
can I get in trouble.
Any help would be welcome

Re: Lease expired what should I do?
While you stay there, you're on a month to month basis. If they are not charging you rent now, they may charge you in the future, as back rent. This is an issue to negotiate when you ultimately get a contract. Since you have no contract now, you may leave at any time. But it would be a good idea to give them 30 days notice. ONce they're notified that you're leaving, they may ask you for the 3 months back rent. Good Luck.
