Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

lease law

I just signed a 12 mo lease on an apartment in san francisco, but don't move in for 2 more weeks. I work for myself and just lost a big job. Can I get out of the lease?

Re: lease law

You are bound by the law of contracts. The converse is if the landlord just received an offer at double the rent you are to pay. Could he break the lease? No!!

However, most landlords don't want a lawsuit. Meet him/her and negotiate your way out. They'd rather having a paying tenant, than a constant problem.
