Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

Lease validity after forclosure

I entered into a one year lease with a relative which gave me right to the home until 9/31/03. They have since lost the home to forclosure. Can I still maintain my residence here until the end of the lease, and what are my responsibilities to the finance company or new owners?

Re: Lease validity after forclosure

If your relative had sold the property, your lease would still be valid. However, since it was foreclosed you have no more right to occupy the property than the former owner would had he lived there himself.

I suggest you offer to remain as a tenant and see if they will accept that.
