Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

Leasing an Apartment

I am a college student. I do not work, and I need to move out of town. I am dependent, and have no credit line. Is it legal for my parents to sign for an apartment lease and allow me to live in it? They will not be living in it.

Re: Leasing an Apartment

Absolutely. As long as your name is on the lease. Good luck and thanks for inquiring.

Re: Leasing an Apartment

It is legal for your parents to sign as guarantors. Many landlords do not accept guarantors, but many others do.

If you are getting an apartment where you go to college, contact your student housing office for information about landlords who are seeking college tenants.
