Is it legal in California to charge 8 months of late fees from my security deposit once i move out?

Although the security deposit is really a cleaning deposit, landlords are allowed to use it to obtain reimbursement for unpaid rent, etc. If you sued to get back the security deposit, the landlord would cross-complain for the late charges.
