Is it legal for a landlord to collect full rent on his property after receivng notice of default due to nonpayment of his mortgage?

Of course. He or she still has full ownership of the property and has basically right up until the foreclosure sale to cure the default, or take other steps, such as Chapter 13 bankruptcy, to stop the foreclosure and keep the property. As long as the landlord owns the property you owe them the rent. If you worked for GM when they defaulted on their bonds would they get to stop paying you? Of course not. They have to pay you as long as you work for them. You have to pay rent as long as you live in the property.
