Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California
is it legal for police officers to review hotel/motel registery's to search for persons on probation as a means to search rooms. even if there is no current wrong doing or even suspicion of wrongdoing.

My limited understanding of criminal law is that a person on probation has given up any right to require probable cause for a search. There is no expectation that the registery will be kept private from law enforcement officials, so what was done is likely very legal and common.
