Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

Hello, I live in a 2br apartment with 3 other adults. We have been late on our rent many times. This time they have said they sent us to an attorneys office for eviction. We are in Stockton, CA. San Joaquin county. My question is: what are our legal rights as far as getting evicted? And what can they do? If we acrue so many fees from the attorneys office and pay them all off can we still be evicted? I guess I just need to know the process and what I am legally able to do and not to do. Any help is appreciated. Thank you!

You are asking a very broad question. You should read a book on tenant's rights, such as from Nolo Press. If you have not paid your rent, the landlord can give you a three day notice which gives you that period to pay your rent. You can be given a thirty day notice that the month to month tenancy will not be reviewed. Paying the attorneyss fees is not paying the rent.
