Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

I Live with my cousin in a house, i rent a room from her, i pay rent every month. on friday 7/23/10 i came home and she started harassing me, she was accusing me of opening mail that i did not open. she told me that she wanted me out of the house in 2 weeks because supposebly i did not give her rent, when i did. i have been living there for 6 months now and since the beggining i started giving her checks for rent, but she asked for CASH instead. I told her i would give her CASH if she provided me with a receipt. i would pay her the rent but she would just never give me any receipts but i didnt push it to much since she is "FAMILY".

Recently there was theft in the house, the house was broken into and my belonggings and valubles were taken, My cousin Stated that some of her stuff was taken also. so i asken what are you going to do with the insurance/? she stated that theft was not covered under her policy so then i put it to rest and did not ask any more. about 2 months after, her brother told me that she had filed a claim for the theft and included was my belongigs she got 9k back and she does not want to pay me what the thiefs took from my room. Now she wants to throw me out because she is claiming i did not give her rent for the month of July when she knows i did. she said she wanted me out in 2 weeks or else she was going to throw my stuff out. she was upset because i put a lock on my door and refused to give her a key after i learned that while i am out on the weekends she would let people sleep in my bed and in my room. she started detaching my door and assaulted me with a screw driver. i defended my self and hit her back. she called the cops and the cops told her she needed to put my door back and that she could not go in my room or touch my belonggings. what should i do in this situation???
