Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California
I live in San Jose, California and I was notified about 60 days ago that my rent was going up on July 1,2011 and I could sign a year lease or month to month. At that time I did sign a year lease but now would like to pay month to month. I have not paid my rent yet which starts the new lease. Csn I change it before the lease actually starts?

You do have a binding contract for a year long lease. You might be able to talk the landlord into agreeing to a month to month [can raise the rent sooner than the one year period], but you ca not force him/her to agree.
