Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

I live in a townhouse and every month I have to pay a HOA fee. Every month the company that manages the money sends out the statements 3 days before I am requied to pay the bill or I will get a late fee. When I used to rent, one of my roommates said that legally we had until the 6th of every month before our rent was due even though the contact said the 1st. Do these laws apply to HOA's? And is what this company doing even legal? If I dont pay the bill the day I get it, there is a chance that it will be late based on standard shipping.

Your room mate was wrong. There is no such law. Most landlords extend a 5-6 day courtesy window on rent, but there is absolutely no legal requirement that they do so. Therefore there is no such law to extend to HOA's.
