Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California
We have lived in our apartment for 10 years. My mother needed a service dog so we aquired one. He has all of his paperwork certificates and tags. There is nothin in the rules of our apartment staring we couldn't have a service dog or a dog as a pet. There are several other tenants of the building who have dogs, some of the apartments own up to 5 dogs. The landlord started harassing us about three weeks ago saying we are violating our lease agreement about not being able to have a dog, but when we asked to see the lease he refused to give it to us or let us see it. We were never given a copy of the rental agreement ever and have not seen it in 10 years since it was signed. He has not asked any other tenants to remove their pets. Two days ago he left a print out legal form from the Internet saying that we need to get rid of the dog by day 3 or we will be evicted. We were told when we got a service dog he was protected under the FHAA and that because of her disability she was within her rights to have a service dog live with her. Now we are being told that we cannot see the lease agreement and that we just must comply with his terms. We do not have a lot of money and cannot find a place to live by tomorrow and we can't get rid of her service dog because she needs him. What is our best route to take? My moms illness has been aggravated by all of the stress and anxiety this landlord has induced by his constant banging on the door and yelling in her face when she opens the door for him. He has also on a separate occasion entered our home without notice, reason, or consent from us and it was not an emergency. What should we do? He's surely going to show up tomorrow as he stated we have 3 days....

You can get a civil restraining order fir the harassment. As for unauthorized entry, you can file a complaint with your local police department for trespass. Lastly, there are lawyers that take these types of cases on a contingency. You can hue a lawyer to sue him for the things you have mentioned.
