Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California
Hello, Ive been living in the same apt. for over 13yrs. For the past year or so ive been late with my rent, I always pay my rent before the end of the month. My lease has no expiration, we get new landlords every 2-3yrs, and my lease remains the same. My landlord's secretary keeps callin about the rent, saying if we dont pay she will evict us. Our old neighbors didnt pay rent for 4months and just recently got evicted. Can we get evicted just for payin rent late? I mean we always pay it off before the month ends, and doesnt seem fair we can get evicted when other tenants dont pay rent for months and get away with it. I would also like to know the eviction process,my rights and laws under california. Thank you for your time.

You definitely can be evicted for habitual late payment of rent. For a summary of California Landlord Tenant Law, take a look at: http://www.dca.ca.gov/publications/landlordbook/catenant.pdf
