Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

We are living in a home that has severe water damage. The downstairs is not livable at this time. There is mold in our hallway, and the owner has not had a mold test. Their answer to this problem was that we pay double what we are paying now and move in to a vacation property and put our things in storage. What should they be doing for us? We need help.

You should contact the city or county health department. If they declare it uninhabitable the landlord will have to let you out of your lease and pay you two months rent in relocation costs.

The landlord has a duty to provide a habitable premises. If they have not done so, you should have a lawyer help you protect your rights.
