Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

Hi, I am currently living in a sub-rent in a house owned by elderly people.I pay rent on the 25th of every month. There is no written lease or paper agreement. On the 11th, the landlord told me she was going to raise the rent, so I decided to move out and looked for another place. I was expecting to move out by the 24th so that I wouldn't have to pay another month of rent. But today, she told me that I must live and pay rent until the 10th, because that is when she broke the news and I decided to move out. I know that there is a 30 days notice required, but does that really begin when she told me on the 11th? If what she's saying is true, do I need to pay a full month or just till the 10th? Or am I allowed to move out as planned on the 24th.

Please let me know what my options are against this greedy landlord.

Greedy landlord? Really? You think someone is greedy because they want you to pay rent for the time you live in their unit.

Did you give the landlord 30 days written notice that you were moving out, stating the date that you were going to move? If not, then you did not give proper notice. If you didn't do that and the landlord is willing to let you out on the 10th instead, that is actually the opposite of greedy. She is being nice. She could force you to pay rent for another 30 days.
