Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

How long should I store her belongings?

A friend of mine stayed in my home, free of charge, for about a year while she got on her feet. She has since moved on but left quite a bit of her things for me to store, also free of charge. I need the space and would like to get rid of the stuff along with the responsibility of storing it. I have left several messages with her daughter but haven't received any kind of a response. How long am I legally obligated to store her things and what steps should I take to get rid of the stuff?

Please advise.

Re: How long should I store her belongings?

Send her a letter to her last known address (which could be your house) telling her she has 15 days to remove her stuff or you are going to destroy it or sell it at a garage sell. If you hear no response, do what you want.
