How long can tenant occupy a residence after the tenant gives 30 day notice? We gave a month's notice on July 6. Our escrow on the house we bought has not yet closed. We need to stay in our current residence longer. We also asked the landlord to take the $1400 July rent out of the $2200 security deposit we paid when we moved in. We did pay him $768 for 17 days in August.

See if the landlord will work with you on the timing. You might have to pay cash up front for the extra time since the security deposit is not supposed to cover anything but repairs.
