Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

What the mail!!!

We live in an appartment complex in Northridge Ca that was recently taken over by new owners. They have now removed the plaque that shows all tenants appartment #'s and names that allows the postal service to deliver mail. Is this move in violation of our rights as tenants? I do not feel that we should have to go to the post office to retrieve our mail when there are perfectly good mail boxes provided at our appartment complex.

Re: What the mail!!!

They could have removed that for your privacy. In the old days, we used to put our names on adhesive tape on the inside of the mailboxes, so the letter carrier knows who lives there. Alternatively, we put the names on a Dymo label on the front of the mailbox, which had a slot for the names. Suggest those to your neighbors. You shouldn't have to rent a box. There are probably postal regulations (with which I'm not familiar) that require delivery to where you live unless you're in some remote place -- which Northridge no longer is. Talk to the local Postmaster to determine the best way to handle this.
