Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

Management dis-allowing access to storage closet.

Hello, my apartment complex has always advertised the water heater closet as a storage closet. Its on all their floorplans.

They sent a notice today saying that they will be locking the closet and it can no longer be used for storage. I understand for safety reasons people shouldnt store stuff next to the water heater, but I can't help and feel a little cheated because they had always advertised a storage closet and are just taking that away. It just doesnt seem quite right to me, but I figured Id ask the professionals! Thanks so much in advance!

Re: Management dis-allowing access to storage closet.

You are very polite, and I appreciate your statement. I wish there were more like you.

Unless you specifically took the apartment because of the closet, I would say that it isn't right, but a law suit won't change anything.

Advertising anything is always in flux. What was on sale yesterday, could be gone, or the price doubled tomorrow. Unless you could show that the complex deliberately misled people, you should let it go.

You may wish to write a letter to management and/or owners requesting a minor rebate, if you feel you were misled, but I would move on, and only bother yourself about more important things in your life.

Good luck!
