Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California
It seems that my mgmt co. is purposely antagonizing me...
...though to someone else it may seem like a series of misunderstandings. I would like to know if there's some way I can confront and stop this behavior.
To clarify, from Dec. through Feb. I had an issue with them regarding a heater that was exhausting carbon monoxide. After much arguing, stubborness and denials on their part, I finally won back a partial refund for my rent.
Last week, they sent back my unendorsed rent check for this month. My mom's name was at the top of the check (she opened the account with me 10 years ago) and because she is not a registered tenant, mgmt said they could not accept it.
The next day I left work to solve this issue with the mgmt co. I wrote a statement, clarifying that my mother is not a tenant. Then I made sure that the rent would not be counted as late. They assured me it would not.
Today, I get a letter saying that I have 3 days to pay rent or move out because the rent has not been received yet. The letter was postmarked yesterday.
In all these interactions, I have primarily dealt with one guy so I don't think these are accidents.
How can I assure that this mgmt co. won't be telling future landlords that I paid late rent? Further, how do I stop this bullying?

You posted this problem before and I remember suggesting you go to the owner of the building and not deal with the management company.
