Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

My Mom recently purchased a home here in California, but the people living at the residence won't leave. The previous legal homeowner has left but he left his brother in law's family behind and they refuse to leave the house after they have been told to do so. They are not the legal owners, and the previous owner have since left. Since they are not the owners and simply just family living with him at the time before he lost the home, can we call the police and have them kicked out. We have showed them the paperwork which states my Mom as the legal owner. What are some things we can do to have them leave the house. thank you

Recommend seeing an attorney, you most likely need some sort of unlawful detainer action... You may be able to recover expenses from previous owner depending on the covenant of quiet enjoyment...
