Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

Motel Keys given to a another person

I recently rented a motel room and was told that due to the holiday, there was a 3-day minimum rental. Since I could only stay 2, I let my daughter and her husband use the remaining day. The owner/manager of this motel in Lake Isabella, CA, is claiming that there is a state law prohibiting keys being given to anyone but the renting party. My credit card was charged for those days, and any damages, if there had been any, which there wasn't. Is there any such law?? This strange manager/owner told my daughter that the room had not been rented to me, it had been rented to Patti LaBelle. HUH?

Are you sure it wasn't the Bates Motel?
