Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California
I moved out of an apartment unit that I shared with another person. The day after I moved out (after a 30 day notice) the other tenant changed the locks and notified me that I would not have access to the unit. I did not have a chance to clean the carpets or paint.
The tenant then posted pictures of my room as I was in preparation of moving out on a social networking site. My personal belongings were displayed without my permission.
Because of the state of the room (4 years of living in the same space) I have experienced job loss (I am a facepainter) and characted defamation.
Do I have a case?

You fail to give enough details in certain areas for me at guess at whether you could successfully sue. But even before considering that, does the room mate have any assets so that a judgment would have any value? Probably not. Since the actions were voluntary, there would be no insurance coverage. She might be responsible for the amount of your security deposit not returned that would have been had you had the chance to clean up [less whatever the costs to you would be for doing so]. Going into your room might have been an invasion of privacy and thus posting any pictures would also be a tort wrong against you. But how are you going to prove loss of income?
If you can not collect on the case, there would be little reason to go after the roommate.
