Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California
We moved into a house with a family that was already living there to split rental cost. Their contract expired before we moved in. The landlord upon knowing we were there raised the rent $600 from one day to the next. the other family is moving, so the landlord had us fill out an application. He told the other family we didn't qualify, and we would have to move out. ( He hasn't told us personally) How long legally does the landlord have to give us to find another place to rent?? Even if there was no contract signed?

I can't tell whether you are a squatter or a tenant from your post. Did the landlord ever accept rent from you for living on the property? Or did you just sneak in?
