Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

neighbors egging our house

we have been renting for 4 months. 2 months after we moved in we noticed someone egged the side of the house. We emailed the landlord and he blamed us saying we are bothering the neighbors. about 1 month after that we noticed another egg that was thrown into the back yard coming from the same direction as the previous eggs. agian we made the landlord aware of this. before we moved in he had asked us to come stay at the house on halloween because he was worried that the house might be egged. He is aware of this problem and has obviously been happening long before we moved in. How much can we be responsible for when this has been an ongoing problem before we even moved in? Are we going to have to pay to have the house repainted?

Re: neighbors egging our house

You are absolutely NOT liable for vandalism that occurs on the property by third parties, and don't let your landlord tell you otherwise. You should take pictures and call the police everytime the house is egged and have them investigate it. Good luck.
