Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

Non return of rental deposit

It has been 30+ days since I moved out and the manager (unable to track down contact for landlord) to get my $1400 deposit after 5 years at my former building. What are my legal options. I heard CA is specific.Loc was left clean and orderly, mgr refused walk through but I took photos. Not one word from manager or owner. Apt. has been worked on and rented.

Re: Non return of rental deposit

See my prior answer. Send a letter to the landlord demanding the money back udner California Code of Civil Procedure 1950.5 [get a copy from the Web], pointing out the 21 day limit, inspection demand, and collecting twice amount of deposit plus actual damages. If there is a provision in your rental agreement that if the landlord has to use an attorney to get back what you owe him, then it equally applies to you so you might be able to get attorney fees also.
